MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho College of Law, the Idaho Supreme Court and the Idaho State Bar Association will host United States Solicitor General Elizabeth Barchas Prelogar for the Memorial Lecture Sherman J. Bellwood 2022 September 6-7 in Boise and Moscow.
Prelogar, born and raised in Boise, will premiere at 5 p.m. Sept. 6 in the JUMP Boise Pioneer Room. She will then deliver her talk in Moscow, “When Justice Is Done: Representing the United States in the Supreme Court,” at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Bruce M. Pitman Center. All times are local.

Prelogar is the 48th United States Solicitor General and is the fourth-highest ranking Justice Department official. As Solicitor General, she directs and oversees all U.S. federal government litigation before the Supreme Court.
As the largest endowed lecture series at the U of I, the Sherman J. Bellwood Lectures bring together prominent local, regional, and national leaders in the State of Idaho and the U of I. The event Boise was added for Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts. appearance in 2009 to celebrate the law school’s centenary.
Prelogar graduated from Boise High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Emory University, a master’s degree from St. Andrew’s University, and a magna cum laude degree from Harvard Law School. She won Miss Idaho USA in 2001 and Miss Idaho in 2004.
Before being confirmed in 2021 as Solicitor General, Prelogar held several leadership positions at DOJ, including serving as Assistant Solicitor General for five years. Preolgar, who is fluent in Russian, also served as deputy special counsel in the 2016 Robert S. Mueller III election interference and obstruction of justice investigation. clerked for Judge Merrick B. Garland of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, who is now Attorney General.
