Students and families will have the opportunity to view the Valparaiso University campus this week as part of Indiana Private College Week.

Valparaiso University will join 28 other private, nonprofit Indiana colleges during the week of July 18-July 22. Visitors will be able to register for campus tours at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

A special visit will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The program includes 12 college-prep activities required for scholars, including estimating college costs, finding scholarships, and submitting college applications. Register for tours and sessions at valpo.edu/visit.

Northwest Health-Porter has adopted comprehensive new guidelines for cardiac imaging that will help clinicians assess and diagnose chest pain in adult patients.

The guidelines, developed by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, are evidence-based recommendations that address the diagnosis and evaluation of acute, stable chest pain in patients visiting the emergency department. .

Cardiologists at Northwest Medical Group say the change in guidelines is expected to have a big impact on patients who present to the emergency room with chest pain or to a doctor’s office with stable chest pain.

Purdue Extension will host a vegetable field day for farmers and home gardeners from 5 to 8 p.m. on August 9 at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center. The event is in partnership between Purdue Extension and the Indiana Soil and Water Conservation District Urban Soil Health Initiative.

Participants will visit vegetable research trials and learn about soil health and vegetable production, with specific topics such as dry bean production, drip irrigation, weed management and Moreover. Duneland School Corporation has appointed Heidi Hennigar as principal of Liberty Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year.

Hennigar, who was previously assistant principal at Chesterton High School and dean of students at Westchester Intermediate, graduated from CHS in 1999 and taught elementary school at Yost Elementary School for 16 years.
