History of Tiger Stadium: 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at the Morton Township Library, 110 S. James St., Mecosta. Author Doc Fletcher shares stories of Charlie Bennett – the man whose first corner stadium was named after him – with Ty Cobb, Hammerin’ Hank Greenberg, Al Kaline, Stormin’ Norman Cash, Ernie Harwell, and Moreover.

Wine and Canvas: 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Artworks, 106 N. Michigan Ave. in Big Rapids. Great Rapids. A social painting experience. Bring your own drinks and snacks and relax. No experience necessary; all equipment provided.

Wheatlake Wellness Walk & 5K: 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at the Big Rapids Bandshell in Hemlock Park behind Big Rapids Middle School. Registration is $35 for the run, $30 for the wellness walk, and $25 for a virtual option. Package pickup and late registration will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 20 at the Big Rapids Hospital Professional Office Building, 705 Oak Street Ste 5, GATE A, Big Rapids. Register or purchase entries online at spectrumhealth.org/wheatlake-races. Proceeds are donated to the Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center Wellness Center in Reed City.

Armed Forces Golf Tournament: Shotgun starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at Clear Lake Country Club, 14777 150th Ave., Big Rapids. Four-person scramble sponsored by the American Legion Post 98. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with military honors at the mast at 9:40 a.m. Cost $75 per person. Registration is open to everyone. Latin Fusion Dance Fitness: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 6-June 4, at the Big Rapids Middle School Cafeteria, 500 N. Warren in Big Rapids. Improved flexibility, strength, balance and endurance through dance. The cost is $2 per person. No class on March 29.

Mecosta County Historical Museum: 2-4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2-4 p.m. the first Sunday of the month at 129 S. Stewart, Big Rapids. We have a new furniture exhibit, our collection of Madame Alexander First Lady dolls, as well as many other artifacts from the area. Mecosta County Genealogical Society: 5-7 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the second Saturday of each month at 424 N. Fourth Ave., Big Rapids, next to Recycle, or by appointment. Mecosta County Sheriff’s Posse: 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the basement training room at Mecosta County Jail, 225 S. Stewart Ave., Big Rapids. This group of volunteers is always looking for new members. For more information call 231-250-9241

Community meal: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at Big Rapids First United Methodist Church, 304 Elm St, Big Rapids.

Community lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Third Avenue United Methodist Church, 226 N. Third Ave., Big Rapids. The community meals program has reopened. This is a free meal service, although donations are appreciated. For more information, call 231-796-4157 or 231-796-6779.

Extracurricular arts: 3:45-5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays. Registrations are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis, but registration is recommended. Register at the Artworks Gift Shop or by calling 231-796-2420 the Monday before each session.

Open pottery: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday. Cost: $10 per session, $60 for an eight-session punch card. (Additional firing charges apply. Clay can be purchased in bulk for $20 per 25 lbs.) Call 231-796-2420 to schedule your session.

Exhibition — Bloomin’ Crazy: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from May 19 to 22, in the Batdorff Gallery. The opening reception will be held on May 19 at 5 p.m.
