New Rivers GM focused on health, safety and customer experience

What attracted you to the role of Managing Director of Rivers Casino Philadelphia?

Moore: Pennsylvania is one of the nation’s leading gambling jurisdictions. I am excited about the expansion and popularity of gaming in Pennsylvania over the past decade, as well as the rapid innovation among regulators and operators that keeps that momentum going. Philly also has some fantastic sports teams. I have been a longtime basketball player and a huge sports fan.

We are all tired of using the word “unprecedented”. But there really isn’t another word to describe the coronavirus and its impact on the gaming industry. What does recovery look like?

Moore: Recovery from the devastating effects of the global pandemic is an issue facing casinos across the country. At Rivers Casino Philadelphia and all Rush Street Casinos, the health and safety of our team members, guests and the community has always been a top priority. We will measure success by maintaining this focus, improving our customer experience, and staying closely aligned with state and city health officials.

Complementary relationship between iGaming and physical casinos

BetRivers generated $ 27 million in revenue in March 2020, the second largest in the state. From the perspective of a general manager of a physical casino, what is the relationship between a retail store and an online casino?

Moore: The Rivers Casino and BetRivers.com the brands are complementary. We provide customers with 360 degree gaming experience. If they can’t make it to the casino for a night of fun, we want people visiting BetRivers.com to play their favorite games. Many popular online slots and online table games are also available at Rivers Casino Philadelphia, so customers can enjoy both live and digital play.

This philosophy extends even further when you talk about the BetRivers bookmaker in the casino and the online bookmaker BetRivers.com. The two brands have also teamed up with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Wells Fargo Center, where you’ll find sportsbook-style lounges in the arena for betting through apps while watching games in real time.

Contest for Rivers Casino Philadelphia

Speaking of competition, Live! Casino Philadelphia is the first casino to open in the Philadelphia area since 2010. How does Rivers differentiate from other casinos?

Moore: For more than a decade, Rivers Casino Philadelphia has proven time and time again that it is a great place to work, a powerful economic engine and a proud community partner. Our collaborative and supportive corporate culture sets us apart. The values and attitudes of our team members are reflected in their daily interactions with clients. Whether on the playground or in the community where our Rivers Gives program helps local nonprofits and area organizations, our team is integrated into the fabric of the city.

Employee retention

The casinos in Pennsylvania are on a recruiting frenzy. Eleven years after its opening, Rivers Casino Philadelphia boasts of its large number of “Day One” employees.

What Holds Back Rivers Employees?

Moore: Our team recently voted Rivers Casino Philadelphia “Top Workplace” for the ninth time, along with numerous other “Best Places to Work” awards. This is in large part because Rush Street Gaming has built and continues to nurture a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce.

There are plenty of opportunities for internal promotions, so you can develop a full game resume here. It’s more than a job, it’s a career. In the midst of the pandemic, Rivers Casino Philadelphia and Rush Street have gone above and beyond to take care of our team members.

More and more customers are coming to Rivers Casino Philadelphia

What do you think the future of physical gaming looks like?

Moore: After staying at home with limited options for over a year, customers are eager to return to physical casinos. With more vaccines available, people want to start interacting in person again, dining out, going to music concerts, meeting friends for cocktails. Also, they want to hit the slot machines and the tables.

With health and safety protocols firmly established, there’s every reason to believe that physical play is about to make a comeback. As the restrictions continue to decrease, we are welcoming more and more customers every day.
